Charlton boss Karl Robinson has bemoaned his lack of firepower on the bench following his side’s 1-1 draw with Bury.

Jermaine Beckford gave the League One strugglers an early lead before Josh Magennis levelled the score.

And Robinson did not introduce an attacking player until the 79th minute in Rangers loanee Joe Dodoo.

Attacking trio Ricky Holmes, Ben Reeves and Mark Marshall were unavailable for the game, limiting Robinson’s options.

He told News Shopper: “At half-time, we just felt if we kept going our chances would come. We knew the longer the game went on, we’d create chances.

“The biggest disappointment for me, and I’ve got to be honest, I don't think we change the game when we’re making substitutions.

“So, we've got good players but they have to come off the bench and make an impact - they have to.

“But then there’s no Ricky Holmes, Ben Reeves and Mark Marshall. Those three would get in every team’s starting eleven in this league.

Billy Clarke has been excellent since he's come in. Before he came in people would've gone Marshy, Reeves and Ricky [playing behind Magennis].

“But we’re without these players. Listen, our midfield, back-line and goalkeeper substitutions are excellent. But you can't just rely on Joe coming on to score a goal - he’s still a young player learning his trade.

“Once we get these players back fit, if we keep performing and keep ourselves in that mix, then our players start coming back fresh and we're ready to go - we’ll be a better squad.”

Charlton had numerous chances to score a winner but Bury goalkeeper Joe Murphy pulled off top saves to deny Jake Forster-Caskey and Magennis.

Robinson feels the Addicks did enough to get three points, however, he criticised his players’ performance in the opening 20 minutes.

He added: “We did enough to win. We’re frustrated. It was weird when the whistle went - you could hear a pin drop - I don't know who is more frustrated the fans or us.

“We were poor. We were horrendous. We were way off our levels and I think the players accepted that. I was critical with them during the first-half.

“What helped us there was an injury, it allowed us to get people in and change our shape to a 4-3-3.

“Once we made that tactical switch, I thought the players coped with it very well during the game. But we've got to make sure we’re strong enough to win the game.”
