Tim Sherwood has tipped Chelsea loanee Ruben Loftus-Cheek for an England call-up.

Loftus-Cheek, who joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan earlier this summer after struggling for game-time with the Premier League champions, has been a shining light in the Eagles’ dreadful start to the season.

A groin injury has restricted the 21-year-old midfielder to just three appearances, however, he has impressed.

Former Tottenham boss Sherwood said: “I’ve watched that boy play for many years now. If he cannot play for Chelsea, they must have some midfield. The kid should be in and around the squad. He’s an excellent talent.

“He’s now had to go out and play in the Premier League with Crystal Palace. He’s playing in a very tough environment, they’re scrapping around the bottom of the league. It will do him the world of good.

“He’s got everything. He’s a Rolls-Royce this kid. He’s a Rolls-Royce. He’s a future England international.”

Loftus-Cheek is likely to start against in-form Manchester City on Saturday as Palace look to end a run of five straight league defeats.
