Charlton Athletic were put to the sword as they lost 3-0 to Wigan Athletic at The Valley.

Both sides had chances in a lively first half but the Addicks’ work was undone when winger Gavin Massey fired the visitors into the lead shortly before the break.

It would go from bad to worse as another goal from Massey was followed by one from midfielder Sam Morsy for a comfortable victory.

Here is how News Shopper rated Charlton’s players …

Ben Amos – 6 – Was put into a lot of uncomfortable situations by his defence and could do little about it. Probably should have done better for the second goal.

Chris Solly – 6 – Good first half and got forward well with Holmes in producing Charlton’s best attack. Got caught on his own a couple times in the second but could not do much about it.

Jason Pearce – 7 – An excellent performance that was undone by the team's defensive errors. Time and again, he made critical blocks and interceptions.

Patrick Bauer – 6 – A poor first half given his odd decisions in putting Amos under pressure, but recovered well in the second. Bailed out Dasilva a couple times when the full back was beaten.

Jay Dasilva – 4 – Looked uncomfortable all game against Gavin Massey and was poor for both Wigan’s second and third goals. Charlton's biggest underperformer.

Ricky Holmes – 6 – Charlton’s best threat going forward in the first half, combined well with Solly to panic Wigan. Became subdued in the second as Wigan forced him into unwanted decisions.

Ahmed Kashi – 6 – A mixed bag: was everywhere in preventing Wigan chances and released Charlton attacks, but had costly lapses in concentration. Big culprit for the first goal.

Jake Forster-Caskey – 5 – Repeatedly lost the ball and took his frustrations out in committing unnecessary fouls. Not needed when you are 3-0 down.

Tarique Fosu – 7 – A consistent threat in one-on-one situations and unfortunate not to score when he cracked the crossbar. Good outing before being substituted.

Billy Clarke – 5 – A quiet and rather forgettable performance, not as involved as he should have been.

Josh Magennis – 6 – Had a few chances in both halves and was unlucky at times, but is presence was what gave Charlton an outlet for going forward.

Ezri Konsa – 6 – Did well to replace Kashi but nothing stood out in particular.

Karlan Ahearne-Grant – 5 – Did not provide the threat Charlton needed to get back into the game, lost the ball more times than he effectively used it.
