Brentford midfielder Ryan Woods has addressed speculation of his absence from the team following the loss of his child.
Woods, 23, has not featured in the last three squads, with his last appearance coming in the Bees’ 1-0 defeat away to Sheffield United on August 5.
He described the “devastating” news in a statement on the club’s website that he says is still difficult for him, his partner, family and friends to come to terms with.
He said: “I would also like to thank those closest to us for their love and compassion, and also the understanding of everybody associated with Brentford Football Club.
“Of course, I can understand the speculation as to why I have not been involved in the last few games but would ask if everybody could respect our privacy at this very difficult time.”
Woods joined the club from Shrewsbury Town in 2015, having now made nearly 200 appearances for the club.
