Tariqe Fosu says he spoke to ex-Charlton winger Callum Harriott before joining the club.
The Addicks signed Fosu on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Reading last month.
And before deciding to join Karl Robinson’s side, the 21-year-old had a conversation about the club with Harriott, who came through the ranks at Charlton before leaving the Valley for Reading last summer.
Fosu told News Shopper: “I spoke to him before coming here and he said Charlton are a good club.
“He said I’d enjoy it and that it would suit me.”
Fosu, a graduate of Reading’s academy, made just one league appearance for the Royals.

But he has gained valuable first-team experience during loan spells with Fleetwood, Accrington Stanley and Colchester over the past two seasons.
When asked why his time with Reading didn’t work out, he said: “I don’t know, to be honest. Sometimes things happen, a change of managers. It’s just how it went.
“It was good to get first-team experience [at Fleetwood, Accrington Stanley and Colchester] and show people what I can do. There were ups and downs with Colchester and it helped me quite a bit.”
He added: “At Charlton, the boys have been very welcoming since I’ve been here. I’ve felt part of the team and it’s pretty good.
“I’m seeing a squad that can achieve promotion. We’ve got good players so it’s just about working and keeping a team spirit. Hopefully we can have a strong start to the season.”

Fosu showed his worth to Charlton fans in a pre-season friendly win against Stevenage on Saturday. Playing in the number 10 role behind Lee Novak and then Josh Magennis, he was the Addicks’ biggest threat.
He said: “They are two strong guys and they can play, as well. I'm just trying to link up and get the connection going to take into the season. For me, I just want to help the team as much as possible when called upon.
“It’s been very good working with the manager. He’s helping me a lot. We speak in training and he tries to help me with my number 10 role or on the left.”
