Simon Clark believes Ezri Konsa and Ademola Lookman will play for the England senior team.

The pair were part of the Young Lions squad that won the Under-20 World Cup on Sunday.

Former Addicks star Lookman scored three goals in the tournament, while Konsa made his international bow.

Clark, who left the Valley in April, worked with Lookman and Konsa in Charlton’s academy and first-team.

When asked whether the Addicks academy graduates can break into the senior England team, Clark told News Shopper: “Absolutely – they’ve both got the right mentality. I keep in touch with them.

“I was looking at an Ade [Lookman] interview on six points why he succeeded and Yannick Bolasie said he is humble and works hard and Ez [Konsa] is like that, too.

“Ezri was hard work with me when I first came in – not in a bad way. He’d ask questions and he’d challenge you, which was great because I knew the answers and I’d fire them back at him.”

Lookman joined Everton in an £11m deal in January.

He shined for the Addicks in a season which ended in relegation last year and was their stand-out player in League One.

And Konsa impressed in his debut 2016/17 campaign at the Valley, making 39 appearances from defence and midfield.

Everton and Arsenal sent scouts to watch the Waltham Forest-born defender at the U20 World Cup in South Korea, where he made just one appearance.

Clark, who will boss Notts County’s U18 team next season, had nothing but praise for Lookman and Konsa.

He added: “They’re both an absolute pleasure to work with and always will be with whatever club they are at.

“As a coach, it’s about what you do for players. There was a period when Ade turned into a trick pony, he had loads of ball movement but didn’t break lines.

“He takes everything on board. It’s great because Ade’s rise has been phenomenal and it’s not easy to keep your feet on the ground when his rise has been so steep.

“With Ezri – he is fine on the floor when his mentality is right which is most of the time. He didn’t dominate aerially and we just worked on his timing and his mentality to attack the ball at its highest point.

“You see these players develop, step in and move on – and there’s nothing more rewarding as a coach. I’m really proud.”
