Millwall defender Byron Webster has opened up about his homesickness.

Webster starred for the Lions in a season which culminated in promotion on Saturday following their 1-0 play-off final win over Bradford.

But while Webster, 30, has been playing for Millwall, wife Katie and their two children have been living up north.

“I can’t speak highly enough of my wife,” he said. “She does a lot. I’ve got two young kids and it’s tough. There’s no getting away from it, it’s very tough.

“The only reason they’ve gone north is because I need to get my little girl settled in school.

“My wife has those two to look after, she has part-time work. She really is a superstar.

“It is tough being away but it benefits us all in the long run as a family.”

Millwall were relegated to League One in Webster’s first season at The Den.

But two impressive campaigns followed, which have made him an integral part of Neil Harris’ squad.

With only one year left on his current deal, Webster has cast doubt over his Millwall future.

“Possibly, possibly,” he said when asked whether he would have had to reconsider his future if Millwall had failed to win promotion.

“But I might have to think about it now. The emotions are all over the gaff. We’re going to party tonight, party tomorrow, the next day and the next day.

“Football is a crazy sport. Millwall might not want me. Going up to the Championship they might not think I can do it. You never know.”
