Leyton Orient boss Omer Riza admitted he met with the owner and president Francesco Becchetti yesterday to discuss when the players would receive their wages.

The O's lost once again in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Cambridge United as they look to drop out of the football league for the first time in 112 years.

Orient currently sit 24th in the table with a minus 34 goal difference and are 10 points from safety.

A goal each from Luke Berry, Liam O'Neil and George Maris ensured Cambridge gained the three points.

It was revealed on Thursday the players and staff were once again left in limbo as to when they would get any payment from the Italian.

When asked if Becchetti made clear when they would be paid Riza said: "I saw the president yesterday and the president has said, as he said to me and Webby (Danny Webb) the last time we were in a meeting he will honour whatever the contracts are of the players.

"That is what he said yesterday. And he also spoke of the technicality of the new bank account and once that is sorted he will pay everybody.

"I can only take that at face value. If someone looks me in the face and tells me that is what is happening there is nothing else I can do.

"I have to believe that. I want to believe that."

Questions still remain as to when or if Becchetti will sell the club and the O's still face a winding-up hearing at the high court on June 12.

"We (Riza and Becchetti) have not spoken about the future, just in respect of until the end of the season," said the 37-year-old.

"All I have been told we have seven games to try and get the best performance that we can out of the boys.

"Try and get them to play in a way I feel is the right way to play in a positive light where they try to enjoy themselves and get something out of the game.

"And that is what I will continue to do until the end of the season."

Nicky Hunt, Callum Kennedy and Teddy Mezague were all missing from the starting line-up this afternoon.

Riza was questioned on whether there was a coincidence with the injuries and the fact players were not paid.

He said: "No I don't think so. It has been a long season if the boys are feeling they have got injuries, the only way that, that can be dealt with is by having scans and having a look and we have to take it as it is.

"If someone says they are not feeling good enough to play you can't push them out on the pitch."

Orient are next in action against Luton Town on Good Friday (3pm kick-off).
