Danny Webb admitted it is good to have a mix of the young and senior players whether a young squad was a positive due to the financial difficulties off the pitch after their 4-0 victory over Newport County.

Josh Koroma scored a first away hat-trick for the club in 10 years after Steven Alzate opened the scoring after just eight minutes.

The scoreline is a much-needed respite after the club were served with a winding-up petition from HMRC earlier this week.

Newport tried to get back into the game but it was to be to no avail and the O’s held on for a vital clean sheet as well as the three points.

Webb said: “It is good having a young squad if you three or four experienced players to keep them grounded, to talk to them.

“I cannot speak highly enough of those senior pros, or not so senior pros. But it’s something for me, I know these players inside out. For four-five years I have worked with them over the score centre.

“Three or four times a week. It's something that they know how I want to play. They know what I ask, they know what I demand.

“And the senior pros are now starting to see how I really work. In the dressing room afterwards, I am not screaming and shouting and high-fiving them afterwards.

“Exactly the same after Stevenage. They know I am just after a performance. I am only ever after a performance and effort to give those fans no room for complaint.

“So they cannot say these lads are not trying for us. We come all this way, they are not trying, they are not tackling. Regardless of the score, we are lucky we showed a bit of class on the ball on the day.”

The O’s have until March 20 to pay the unpaid bill spoken of on the winding-up petition and if they do not settle beforehand they have to attend the high court.

When asked how it has affected him and his players the 33-year-old said: “It’s one of many things that has come my way since taking this job.

“There has been a few. It is something I try and tell myself well we might be better for it in the future.

“I would love to be managing this club for years and years to come and see Josh Koroma etc playing at 23, 24 and us turning down bids of £2-3million for them which I am sure will happen.

“That is my dream so to speak whether it happens or not who knows. But it has been one hit after the other with a lot of things.

“But whether I am 33 or not I cannot show any sign of that it is getting to me to those players. Because when I see those fans turn up today it makes it all the worthwhile.”

Webb also admitted there was no issue over payment of the players and the staff. The O’s face Grimsby Town next week at Brisbane Road with a 3pm kick-off.
