Paul McCallum stressed Leyton Orient boss Danny Webb has ‘got everyone on board’ with his positivity.

The striker was on the scoresheet at the weekend along with Teddy Mezague, but the goals were not enough to stop the O’s falling to a 3-2 defeat against Notts County.

With relegation rival Cheltenham Town visiting Brisbane Road on Saturday, the E10 club will have another opportunity to boost their chances of avoiding relegation out of the Football League.

McCallum said: “The day Danny got the job, it was after the Mansfield game, he sat us down on the Monday and he gave a speech.

“After the speech the boys went back into the changing room and we were like ‘wow, we are going to do this’.

“He got everyone on board, straight away, everyone was buzzing to train and there is a buzz at training now.

“The intensity is good and he believes in us and that is the main thing and we believe in ourselves now.

“We’ve just got to focus and improve on what we did today. Keep the ball, get it wide and create a lot of chances because I believe that it is about time our luck changed and we start getting the results we deserve.

“Everyone in there is confident, I am confident and the gaffer is confident. That is all we need.”

Webb has previously stressed the need for his players to relax and focus on themselves rather than the opposition.

When asked how this has been beneficial, the 24-year-old said: “We have stopped watching the videos on the other teams, which I believe is the right thing to do. Everyone in this league is the same bar Doncaster and teams like that.

“We know what we are going to get every week. During the week it is just about what we do and how we are going to win the game and how we are going to effect the game rather than focus on what opponents can do to us.”

It was a tough defeat for the O’s after coming back from 2-0 down to level, vice-captain Liam Kelly was also starting his six-game ban and Tom Parkes came off injured within two minutes.

“Liam has been done for six games and I feel that is a bit extreme but that is for another day,” said McCallum. “But Parkesy gets injured in the first two minutes of the game and Callum (Kennedy) has to fill in and he is wounded as it is.

“It just shows, even though we are bare-boned out there and we are still struggling, we still can fight and we still believe.”

With Kelly out and Nicky Hunt serving a two game ban the 33-year-old manager turned to McCallum with the Captains armband.

When asked what that meant to him he said: “We had a chat before and I’d love to be skipper. Out there I feel like I can lead us. It sort of settles me down a bit, not getting silly bookings as you have to lead by example.

“But it felt good today it was just unfortunate I don’t have a 100% record with wins as captain.”

The game kicks off at 3pm on the Matchroom Stadium.
