Danny Webb admitted he took away some positives from his first game in charge which saw his Leyton Orient side lose 2-1 against Carlisle United at the weekend.

Gary Liddle and Jamie Proctor's goals were enough to send the three points back to Cumbria but Orient managed to produce a different kind of a performance.

Despite losing their fifth game in a row, the 33-year-old thought his player's attitude were much better.

He said: “When we were 2-1 down the attitude was great. But I think that does from seeing a lot of throwing the towel in.

“Now I am not saying they have done that, but heads have dropped, I think, before. This happens when you are down there but heads did not drop today.

“People make mistakes, and mistakes are fine. This season is not about playing perfect football or going through with an 8, 9 or 10 in your local paper.

“It is about doing what you can to get these 4000 punters on your side and hopefully getting something from the game.

“Against a team that I think are going to breeze it in terms of getting in the top three, I thought they kept going.

“And the fact I saw their manager on the side panicking and I think even he thought we would get something from the game.”

Tomorrow night, the O's face Morecambe who sit 17th in the League Two table.

When asked how important this game was the former Southend striker said: “That game is massive and we say 'we played well against Carlisle so Morecambe is going to be a breeze.'

“I have been there before, playing against top teams and saying this is good and then you go into the next game and it is the biggest anti-climax ever.

“We have got to make sure we approach the game the same, and my advice to the players is whatever happens on match day, the next day’s training will be the same if we have won 3-0 or if we lose 3-0.

“Because I think a lot of these lads have stopped enjoying coming to work, to a degree, like you would with any team down the bottom.

“You lose confidence, and the atmosphere isn’t great. And it shouldn’t be as we are down the bottom but Monday morning I want them all to come in lively, ready to go again and hopefully Tuesday we can get something on the board.”

The E10 club still sits in the relegation zone but their next three home games are vital as they take on teams who are around just above them such as Notts County and Cheltenham.

Liam Kelly was also on the bench against The Cumbrians in what was a must needed boost for the side and Webb also spoke about the importance of the upcoming fixtures.

“There is a lot of 36 pointers. There is a lot of big games there I just saw on the TV such as Notts County, they lost to Accrington and Kev’s (Kevin Nolan) gone in there and it isn’t as easy," said the former assistant manager.

“And they signed a load of players. It doesn’t always work, and the phrase I am using, which is a bit of a cliché, is that is football.

“It is the nuttiest profession around and things happen that you don’t expect. And at the minute people expect us to get thumped every week.

“I think today we showed we are not going to take it like that.”

The game takes place at Brisbane Road tomorrow evening (7.45pm kick-off).
