Andy Edwards was once again left disappointed after Leyton Orient lost 3-1 to Barnet at Brisbane Road.

A Ricardo Santos double and one from Curtis Weston were enough to send the three points back to north London and send the Bees into the playoffs spots.

This result, after Edwards once again had to field a depleted starting XI, meant the O’s had conceded seven goals in two games.

“We keep speaking and working on being hard to play against and for a period of the games we are,” said Edwards.

“But there are some lapses in concentration, mistakes that are costing us dear.”

Orient started on a positive note after the first half ended 0-0, but John Akinde will be left reeling at not being able to convert his chances in the first 45.

However, it was the same old story for the O’s as once again after they conceded the first goal their heads seemed to drop.

When asked about confidence issues the 45-year-old said: “All the teams down the bottom end, confidence is low, and you try and rebuild it.

“Get that work ethic, I thought for half an hour we were decent, we were matching Barnet, they got on top for the last 15 minutes of the first period.

“On the second half it was an even game up until the goal and we gave a cheap goal away. We did not deal with the set piece, we did not react quickly enough.

“And straight away the confidence comes out of the players.”

Orient seem to be having a run of bad luck as of late with Robbie Weir set to miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury to his knee and other key players missing.

“There are a lot of names on the back of the programme but I think nine or 10 of them are under-21 with less than 10 games under their belt,” said the former academy director.

“We have a lot of injuries, players unavailable to us and Michael Collins has a contract that only runs for another three weeks, so we will have to see what happens with him.

“He is somebody we would like to keep, I thought he was really good today, so we will have to wait and see what we can do in the transfer window if anything.”

When asked about speaking about January targets with owner Francesco Becchetti he said: “We have spoken about targets, but most of those targets have gone now to other clubs.

“Newport County has signed four players, Barnet has brought in a few, so teams around us are strengthening.

“We have not had that opportunity yet but I hope we can get players in, we need competition in places and you can see with the squad we have no depth.

“We need that in the situation we are in.”

The O’s face a tough away game next week when they travel away to Portsmouth on Saturday kicking off at 3pm.
