Different day same end result as Leyton Orient have lost nine games at Brisbane Road, eight consecutive home defeats in League Two this season alone.

O’s boss Alberto Cavasin was 100% certain his side are now fully in a relegation battle having lost 1-0 to Exeter City who sat bottom of the table going into the match.

Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game and Orient only managed one shot on target throughout the entire 90 minutes and it came late on in the second half from Jay Simpson.

“We are certainly in a relegation battle as the league table says so,” confessed the 60-year-old.

“The results on the pitch have not demonstrated the quality of the group for the reason why the players were bought in the first place.

“I take responsibility from my position and my job is shared with all the group. We cannot accuse one more than the other. It is not tactical to go looking for culprits.

“We just have to realise the fact is things are not going well. And we are going to see why to understand the reasons to manage to give more potential to the team to allow them to win.”

Once again the O’s appeared nervous and looked as though they were losing 4-0 rather than by one and a lack of passion and fight was evident.

The E10 club was lucky not to lose by more as Exeter failed to put away the many chances they received and Christy Pym only had to make one save all evening.

Cavasin said after the 2-0 loss to Crewe Alexandra he wanted more fight and when questioned about the lack of heart he said: “In the second half of the game we saw a team that proved they can fight.

“There were many balls that past two centimetres from the goal. We dominated the second half but this at the end of the day does not count.

“The result is what counts but certainly in the second half, the team gave a lot. We are talking about character and I think they proved it.”

Callum Kennedy and Robbie Weir were both substituted at the start of the second half and the Italian boss said they had picked up slight niggles.

“The problem Callum had was we didn’t make him train the last day and he came back and for him, it was not possible to continue the game.

“Weir had the same issue, he had a problem during the week and it was the same situation as Kennedy.

“Plus he had a bit of a cold and a fever, he still wanted to play but in the end, he could not manage we had to force the subs.”

Cavasin was asked if he was the right man for the job to ensure Orient can get out of the situation they are currently in.

“Certainly yes. There can be many others even better than me but now I am here so I believe I can do it,” responded the Italian.

“There is Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and many others, I am not saying I am the best but I can save it.”

Things do not get any easier for the O’s, at the weekend they face a trip to third-placed Doncaster Rovers followed by a week off.

If results do not go their way and they do not gain the three points, Orient could sit bottom of the table until their home match against Accrington Stanley on Saturday, December 10.

The former Sampdoria boss said: “It is not the higher or lower position than we are now on the table that can create more fear or anxiety.

“We have to present ourselves to this match with a helmet, a knife and our teeth. We have to maximise our productivity and capability.”

The game kicks off at 3pm on Saturday at the Keepmoat Stadium.
