Leyton Orient recorded their second win under boss Alberto Cavasin after they defeated Colchester United 3-0 on Saturday.

The U's got off to the better start but had the wind knocked out of their sails when Jay Simpson opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Nicky Hunt added more to the host’s woe when he doubled the O's lead straight after the break.

Simpson added a wonder strike from 25 yards out to ensure Orient travelled back to east London with the three points.

1. All Jay Simpson needed was Alberto Cavasin...

Well not quite... those are the words from the Italian but while Simpson may not have scored he did show some quality in his game.

To show he still had the form from his 25-goals a season last year, he needed to score his first - which this proved as he scored the beauty a mere hour after his first.

2. Colchester could well be fighting for relegation

It was well noted their fans seemed restless throughout the game and at full-time with their manager John McGreal.

The 44-year-old said the result was fairly devastating and it sure is for a side who were in League One last season and now sit 22nd.

The U's are now on a 12 game winless run in all competitions - But McGreal said they had no excuse for their performance on Saturday.

3. Ollie Palmer needs to hold possession

Palmer produced two great goals against Hartlepool which saw the O's come back from 1-0 down to win 3-1 at the end of October.

He scored three in two games which shows he does have that finishing quality but he has a tendency to lose the ball.

It is something he may need to work on as it felt this is where the pressure started. Colchester were struggling but other sides may not be so forgiving.

4. Alex Cisak once again proved his worth

Cisak is nothing short of a great shot stopper and he kept his first clean sheet in the league since the 0-0 draw against Barnet.

The O's feel they are more likely to build momentum after gaining a clean sheet.

It will do bundles of good for Cisak who has already been a standout player this season.

5. Orient felt like they were playing as a team

Taking up the diamond formation seemed to work wonders.

Gavin Massey was impressive against his former side as him and Nigel Atangana took up a new role in the match.

It seemed they all wanted to play for one another and help the back four stay as a tight knit group to ensure they did not concede.

Hopefully this a sign of things to come.
