Jonny Williams said it was vital he showed Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew he was injury-free at Euro 2016.

The Wales international featured in four of their six matches at the European Championship, including the semi-final defeat to Portugal.

The 22-year-old, who made just one league appearance for Palace last season, came on in the Eagles’ 3-1 pre-season loss to Fulham on Saturday and said he is ready to play after achieving what Pardew asked of him before the Euros.

“I proved I’m fit and healthy,” Williams said.

“I needed that. It was the longest I’d been injured and he [Pardew] just wanted me to go and show I can play and do well, and hopefully I did do that.

“Now I can continue that throughout pre-season and take good form into a Palace shirt.”

Williams has had just two weeks holiday since the tournament in France and spent part of that having his wisdom teeth removed in a bid to stay injury-free.

The midfielder endured persistent injuries last season and believes addressing his dental issues may have finally found the root of the problem.

“I was trying anything I could and was still getting injured,” he said.

“I went to Italy to get that side of the game looked at and touch wood I haven’t had any problems.

“A few of the lads have had the same problem, and it’s worked for me.”

Williams came on in the 82nd minute at Craven Cottage and had little time to make an impact as the Eagles slumped to their first pre-season defeat.

The playmaker was sporting a new Aaron Ramsey-style dyed-blonde hairdo, which he joked was actually Phil Jones inspired, and believes his experience playing against top players has shown he is ready to play a part when the new season begins.

“I believe in myself,” Williams added. “I could do it in the European Championship so I’d like to think I can do it in the Premier League.

“You’re playing against people playing in the Champions League week in week out so if you can do it against the best then you can do it on a weekly basis.”
