Andy Hessenthaler said he feels his side looked livelier against Woking as they won their second UK pre-season friendly 2-0.

Dean Cox and Paul McCallum both hit the target after lengthy spells on the side-lines to ensure Orient came away with the win.

Hessenthaler also revealed the players looked fit and ready for the long 2016/17 season and was pleased with the performance.

“For some reason I thought we looked a little bit lethargic against Dover in terms of our tempo and our play,” he said.

“It was better in the second half compared to the first half as we didn’t get going there was no real urgency about us and we didn’t support the front players quick enough.

“But I think we are starting to get there in terms of fitness levels, our legs look better.

“There were certain individuals who looked a little bit leggy at the weekend but against Woking they were bright.

“I think that comes down to the training we are getting them into now and we were away in Italy and it has been quite high intensity in terms of the training and the weather.

“I think the fitness levels are definitely going up.”

Hessenthaler’s O’s will welcome back old boss Russell Slade and former assistant manager Kevin Nugent, who signed a deal yesterday, as they face Charlton at Brisbane Road on Saturday.

The 50-year-old also said Charlton will be a good test ahead of the Cheltenham match on Saturday, August 6.

He added: “It will be good to see Russell, I have come up against Russell over the years when I was at Gillingham, he is a good guy and he obviously done excellent when he was at Orient.

“And Kevin, who I have worked with, he is a top top guy and it will be good to see him as well.

“It will be a good test for us, a good test for the boys, these are the games they lads want to play against teams like Charlton.

“I am looking forward to it.”
