Steve Morison insists the Millwall squad are not dwelling on their play-off final defeat as they turn their attentions to the 2016/17 season.

After an indifferent start to the campaign, Neil Harris’ side quickly found their feet in League One and enjoyed a superb run of form in the second half of the season.

The Lions passed the 80-point mark with a final day victory at Gillingham and despatched of Bradford over two legs to reach the play-off final.

And while Barnsley proved too strong at Wembley, running out comfortable 3-1 winners, Morison believes the side can use the experience as a platform ahead of the new campaign.

He said: “We certainly won't be dwelling on what happened at Wembley.

“Instead we'll be looking back at what a great year we had and trying to use it as a platform to build on for this coming season.

“We will be better from the experience of last year and with the new signings we've made, as well as the fact the younger players have many more games under their belts, then we have to be confident that we can progress further.”

Morison, who returned to Millwall for his third stint at the club last summer, has formed a prolific partnership with Lee Gregory.

The strike duo combined to net 46 goals in all competitions and former Norwich and Leeds forward Morison felt his performances improved as the season went on.

“On a personal level I felt better and better as last season went on,” the 32-year-old said.

“But ultimately, in terms of how well you play as an individual, that all comes down to the team and how we perform as a unit.

“In the second-half of the season especially we played some good football and picked up some impressive results along the way.”
