Dagenham & Redbridge have announced Waltham Abbey forward Christian Assombalonga has signed a two-year deal with the club.

The 25-year-old scored 31 times in 34 appearances in the Ryman League Division One North during the 2015-16 season and will now play in the National League with the Daggers at Victoria Road.

The attacker, who is the brother of Nottingham Forest forward Britt, will be hoping to follow his footsteps in his rise from non-league football to Championship level.

Manager John Still said he was alerted to Assombalonga when he was manager at Luton Town.

He said: “He was spotted by my scouts and I continued to have him watched by which time I arrived at Dagenham.

“He’s a converted centre half who knows where the goal is and someone who’s full of enthusiasm.

“Once I made a move to get him the deal was nailed on because he wanted to come here.

“He’s experienced but knows where the goal is and fits the bill of raw hungry talent.

“I’m pleased he’s now part of our squad for next season.”
