Crystal Palace legend Mark Bright knows the current side are “sick of listening” to him talk about the 1990 FA Cup final.

However, it has not stopped him dishing out on vital piece of advice – learn from his own failings.

Bright was part of the side that lost 1-0 to Manchester United in a replay after the initial tie ended 3-3 at Wembley.

He admitted that he still looks back on the day wishing it had turned out better, and his advice to the new era of Palace stars is a simple one.

“They’re sick of listening to me,” joked Bright. “There’s nothing I can say to them that they have not heard from me already.

“They’ve done it on their own, I haven’t given any advice on the way.

“I could be saying ‘Back in 1990 when we played, this is how it was…’, but they don’t want to hear that.”

He added: “But if they were listening, my message to them would be don’t have any regrets.

“Every time I watch that FA Cup final in 1990, I always wish we had won.

“I don’t think the team could have given any more, we just weren’t good enough, but this team I think are good enough.

“So just don’t have any regrets, make sure when you come off that pitch you’ve given everything you’ve got, because you might not get another chance.

“We’ve got enough in our team to win that game, but they’ve got enough in their team to win that game.”

Bright recalled the build-up to the 1990 final, admitting the pre-match routine is something a footballer dreams of.

And the 53-year-old believes Palace have benefitted from having already experienced playing at Wembley in the semi-final.

He said: “You just can’t wait to get there. I remember we went down Wembley Way on the bus - that was one of the things you always dreamt of doing.

“You’ve got the telegrams, yellow envelopes with messages from people from school, teachers, friends, ‘Good luck, all the best’.

“You go down the tunnel, you get on the pitch to have a look around, you come back in and just want to get changed.

“The benefit for the boys is they’ve had the semi-final, it’s a little bit different because it’s the final, but you’ve had the sensation.”
