Aiden O’Brien says he is not the type of person to “throw his toys out of the pram” and is happy to play wherever Neil Harris chooses.

The Islington-born forward has played as a striker in recent weeks after prolific goalscorer Lee Gregory was forced to have surgery on a stomach muscle problem.

O’Brien grew up playing up top and insists he is enjoying the role – he set-up Shane Ferguson’s strike to put the Lions 2-0 up against Oldham on Saturday.

The 22-year-old said: “I’m getting back used to it [playing as a striker].

“I’ve been on the wing for the whole season really and doing well, maybe I drifted off for a couple of months.

“It’s not my natural position, I’m enjoying play up top where I grew up playing.

“But I’ll play wherever the manager puts me – that’s the type of person I am. I’m not going to complain or throw my toys out the pram.

“I’ll get on with it and do my job and try to score wherever I play.”

O’Brien, who signed his first professional deal with Millwall in 2010, has enjoyed a breakthrough season at the Den.

The forward has already played 50 games this term and has entered double figures for his goal tally.

O’Brien thanked manager Harris for giving him the opportunity to flourish in the first-team.

“This is my first real solid year when I’ve been a key player in the team I think,” he said.

“The gaffer’s giving me the chance and I’ve scored a few goals and set some up to repay him.

“So hopefully I can keep going for him.”

Millwall have been in fine form since Christmas and the 3-0 victory over Oldham was their third straight league win.

The Lions have netted 71 goals this season – the third most in the division – and O’Brien insists the side have no problem finding the back of the net.

Injured striker Gregory has 17 strikes to his name while Steve Morison has 15 and six assists.

O’Brien added: “We’ve got no problem scoring goals as you can see.

“We are starting to score bundles of goals now and that’s six wins on the bounce at home.

“We have no problem scoring and we got a clean sheet [against Oldham]. We’re a tough team to beat and anything can happen – hopefully we can get promoted.”
