Jose Riga admits it will be hard to keep some of his Charlton stars this summer.

Speaking after the 2-1 win at Leeds, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ademola Lookman and the returning Ahmed Kashi all impressed.

Goals either side of half-time from Gudmundsson and Lookman were enough to give already-relegated Charlton their third away win of the year.

When asked by News Shopper if it will be difficult to keep the club’s best players, Riga said: “Yes, of course, it will be hard.

“You have some players who are certainly looking for another level.

“But, it’s between the fact that they want [to play at] another level and then if they will find it - there is a step.

“We’re already busy to see what the best solution is for the club.

“Of course, if we can keep some key players then we will do it. But, we’ll see what the story will say to us in the next few weeks.”

He added: “I’ve had some talks with some players [on whether they want to stay next season or not].”

Charlton could have been a goal down in the third minute but Nick Pope saved well with his legs to deny Luke Murphy.

Gudmundsson was unlucky to see his 20-yard shot bounce off the post.

However, the Iceland international put Charlton in front after connecting with Morgan Fox’s drilled cross in the 39th minute.

It was Gudmundsson’s sixth goal of the season - making him the club’s top goalscorer.

Riga’s men extended their lead shortly after the break when Lookman drilled the ball past Marco Silvestri.

Despite Chris Wood hitting the bar and Leeds pulling a goal back through Sol Bamba, which resulted in a bit of late pressure, the Yorkshire side never really troubled the Addicks.

Riga was happy that the team could give something back to the travelling fans.

He said: “A game is a game - in your head you can think ‘the season is finished, we have nothing to win or lose anymore.’

“But, for the club and the fans, they made a long trip to support us today, the players still have to give.

“So, I’m very pleased with this performance.”

Charlton play Burnley at home next Saturday in the last game of the season.
