Karel Fraeye stated that Charlton fans decided to protest when “things were not going the way they wanted” following the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Simon Makienok’s 70th minute equaliser rescued a point for the 10-man Addicks.

They could have won it at the death but Dorus De Vries made two excellent saves to deny returning Colchester loanee Callum Harriott.

Before and after today’s game, around 1,000 supporters stood outside the West Stand to vent their frustrations at owner Roland Duchatelet.

Fraeye said: “I think this club ended up with 60 points in the Championship which is very good.

“This season when things were not going the way they wanted, they took action.

“The support of the fans is very very important and it mostly affects their [players] performance on the pitch.

“In the second-half, they gave a lot of energy to the team.

“Still, we are in the relegation zone where we don't want to be and we’re doing the actions that any other club would do.

“Once the transfer window opens, we will bring in the players we need and we are doing that.

“Of course, we knew that we lacked some quality, we’ve known this for some weeks but we’re working behind the scenes, like every club, doing its business.

“I don’t know if there are many abnormal things about that.”

Charlton failed to have a shot on target in the first-half - Callum Harriott’s deflected strike was the closest they came.

The resulting corner could have led to something but Makienok slipped at the vital moment when he was about to shoot.

Forest’s pressure paid off when the lively Ryan Mendes found Ben Osborn who curled the ball past Stephen Henderson from just inside the box.

Harriott was Charlton’s best player on the day and his cross found Makienok who poked the ball home.

Substitute Tareiq Holmes-Dennis received two yellow cards in quick succession but the Addicks still looked more likely to score.

However, the South Londoners had Henderson to thank for the point after he denied Nelson Oliveira in the 90th minute.

Fraeye praised returning winger Harriott for massively impacting the game.

He added: “It’s very simple, if he had a recall clause, I would've called him back immediately - we did this after some days with Harry Lennon.

“We know what Callum Harriott can do, he’s getting older and gaining more and more experience.

“I think he’s a very useful player for us and he’s a Charlton player - I’m very pleased that he could offer Simon’s goal.”

Fraeye also gave the latest update on Tony Watt, who is on loan at Cardiff, the striker bagged another assist today.

He said: “I think that’s the discussion the board has to make and it will be around mid-January when that decision is taken.

“It might also depend on what players we bring in.”
