Talks to extend Barnet attacker Ben Tomlinson's initial month-long loan stay at Grimsby Town have begun.

The 25-year-old, who only joined the Bees in the summer, is due back at The Hive on Sunday following the Mariners' game with FC Halifax Town.

However, goalkeeping coach Andy Warrington has confirmed Grimsby would like to extend the attacker's stay at Blundell Park.

He told the Grimsby Telegraph: “The clubs are in dialogue at the moment, and that will be discussed after the game tomorrow night.

“We will have to see what happens, and where they go from here.

“Ben (Tomlinson) has come in and added something different to what we have already got.

“His enthusiasm around the place is fantastic, and that has a positive knock-on effect on the rest of the lads.”

Asked last week whether he would like Tomlinson back at Barnet yet or not, head coach Martin Allen was coy.

He told the Times Series: "That's something to consider. I know they are very pleased with him.

"He's done really well up there and he's got a good lad, I really like him and he's got some really good attributes and we will have to see on that one."

Tomlinson has not scored in six appearances for the National League side whilst playing as a striker. But Allen would not reveal whether he saw the former Lincoln City player as a winger or a striker.

Grimsby boss Paul Hurst was unequivocal, though, and told the Grimsby Telegraph: "He can play in different positions, and if we went to a front three, he would have no problems fitting in one of those wider areas.

"Realistically, if you asked him, he would say that he is a striker. Really that's why I've brought him in."
