Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye has insisted the France squad will support Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud as he aims to return to form for club and country.

Giroud, 29, has scored 44 goals in 105 league games for the Gunners but is currently enduring a lean spell.

Giroud’s drop in form has led Arsene Wenger to leave the forward out of his first team, as well as a substantial number of French fans jeering his performance against Serbia last month.

But Cabaye, a teammate of Giroud for France, has insisted that the team will get behind him in his battle to regain form.

“He must feel that we are there to encourage him and push him forward,” Cabaye was quoted as saying by L’Equipe.

“We’re a team, a group, almost like a family. We won’t let him down.

“We need to give our forwards confidence and Olivier needs to feel us behind him.

“If he plays against Denmark I hope he will score and do good things.

“He is a goal-scorer and so even if he has a good game, but does not score, he won’t be happy at the end.”

Cabaye, 29, has enjoyed a superb start to live in south London, scoring two penalities in as many games as Palace have stormed up to fourth in the league.
