Johnnie Jackson insists Charlton Athletic can still finish in a Championship play-off position, despite the club’s poor start to the season.

The Addicks are currently in 17th position – two points above the relegation zone – after failing to record a victory in their last six outings.

Guy Luzon’s team appeared to be heading to a fifth consecutive defeat last week, before Jackson’s substitution inspired a fine comeback at the Valley against Fulham.

And the Charlton captain still believes the club can put together a productive run and earn a spot in the play-offs.

When asked where the Addicks will finish this season, the 33-year-old said: “Top six, scrape into the play-offs.

“I think it’s going to be very, very tough – we’re not on the greatest run at the moment so it’s going to be tough, but I’ve seen enough from the team.

“It’s going to be incredible difficult and the chances are unlikely but we’ve seen it before where a team puts a good run together and scrapes in there.

“I think we’ve got to be one of those teams aiming for that.”

The Charlton veteran, who was answering questions as part of Sky Sport’s “10 to tackle” on the FL72 podcast, also revealed the best part about playing for the club and his favourite moment in a Reds shirt.

“When we win at home, the Valley is absolutely buzzing,” Jackson said.

“Those little moments, like when you score in front of the Covered End it’s one of the best feelings I’ve had in my career.”

“When I got promoted from League One with Charlton, captaining the side, the day we got the trophy and you get to lift the trophy in front of your fans and [the other is] scoring the winner against Queen's Park Rangers here a couple of seasons back.

“We were in a bit of a rut at the time, a bit of a relegation scrap, the manager was under pressure and it was a day where we desperately needed a win.

“I scored a winning goal with maybe a minute to go, right at the death, and that's the best feeling I've ever had in football.”
