West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has revealed the east London club hope to make two more signings before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

The first of is expected to be Alex Song, who was on loan at Upton Park last season, as the two parties have been engaged in continuing negotiations. Whilst the other could be a replacement for the injured Enner Valencia – who, it was announced earlier on Monday, will be unavailable for the next ten to 12 weeks.

Whilst talking to the London Evening Standard, Gold revealed the Hammers were already looking to bolster their forward line, but following the injury to the Ecuadorian a new striker has become a priority.

“I would have thought [we will sign] at least two new players, not necessarily before we kick off but before the window closes," he stated.

“We’ve lost Valencia for the beginning of the season. We were already believing that we required another striker in the squad and we’ll be doing everything in our power to bring in the best players that we can.

Even though negotiations for Song have taken a while, Gold was keen to iterate that West Ham would not be forced into making any rash decisions: "We enjoyed Alex Song’s contribution but these things are ongoing.

"We’re not panicking, we’re not going to do poor deals, we’re going to do sensible deals and I think by the time we kick off we should be in good shape".
