Reigning Hammer of the Year Aaron Cresswell has put pen-to-paper on a new five-year deal at West Ham United.

The 25-year-old left-back, who joined from Ipswich Town last summer, has committed until 2020 with the option of two further years.

Speaking to the club website, he said: “It's exciting times for me to pen a new deal at West Ham.

“Thankfully last year was a good season for me personally to play every minute of every game, so it's nice to finally commit my future to West Ham.

“I was at Ipswich 12 months ago and when West Ham came in for me there was only one place for me.

"I jumped straight in the car, down the A12 and signed for West Ham. So for me to play for a club like West Ham, week in week out, is massive and these are exciting times.

"It's going to be a massive year for us, the last year at Upton Park. But it's exciting times going into one of the best stadiums in Europe, even in the world. It's going to be a good summer, hopefully a few more faces will come in and we’ll have a good year.”

Cresswell, who began his professional career at Tranmere Rovers, last year played every minute of the Hammers' Premier League campaign following his £3.75 million move from Suffolk.

And the defender's impressive form saw him not only receive admiring glances from bigger sides but land the Hammer of the Year, Players' Player of the Year and Signing of the Season awards at the club's end of season awards dinner.

West Ham earlier announced the appointment of iconic left-back Julian Dicks to the club's coaching team. Unsurprisingly, the move has Cresswell's approval.

He enthused: “It's a great appointment, especially with the fans, the fans love him as well, he's a fans' favourite from his time when he was here and I think he's going to be a good addition to the staff.”
