Barnet have made their first addition of the summer by re-signing midfielder Tom Champion, who was part of the Bees side which won the Conference in 2005, following his release by Cambridge United.

The 29-year-old, who was born in Barnet, played seven times for Paul Fairclough’s side as they won promotion back to the Football League.

A move to Bishop’s Stortford followed and the 6ft 3in midfielder spent five years with the Hertfordshire outfit before joining Braintree Town in 2010.

He was on the move again later that year as he linked up with Dartford for a three-year stint, helping the Darts win promotion from the Conference South.

And after linking up with Cambridge United in 2013, Champion helped the U’s win promotion back to the Football League via the Conference play-offs, captaining the side upon their return to the Football League.

Champion made 46 appearances in the league and cup for Cambridge last term as Richard Money’s side finished 19th.
