Barnet boss Martin Allen has revealed he has made two new additions to his squad in preparation for League Two but will be keeping their identities under wraps until their current deals expire.

The Bees announced the departures of captain Charlie MacDonald and goalkeeper Sam Cowler earlier today and Allen was confirmed he has completed deals for two new faces.

He told the club website: “Following a couple of busy weeks meeting players and agents I am pleased that we have now signed two new Aplayers to our team for next season.

“Both are currently getting paid by their own clubs and we will let you know who they are just as soon as we can.”

Asked how many signings he would like to make and which positions he was looking to strengthen, Allen remained coy.

However, the former Leicester City and Brentford boss stated his intention to improve on the existing squad instead of just adding numbers to the group.

"I know exactly what we want and need,” he stated. “I know what I think is going to be good for the team.

"It won’t be any good bringing in people on the periphery, they have got to go in and be starting players.

"I think it is best I keep numbers and targets to myself," he continued. "Speculation is always going to happen but I will just do it quietly on my own with the chairman. If I get the players down then it is up to the chairman to do the deals, which he normally does, then we will get on and ready to start pre-season on July 1."

He added: “I can’t lie, I have been lying in the swimming pool with my phone trying to find out what players are available, getting texts and emails non-stop. Every time she (partner Lisa) dived in the pool I got my phone out to check who was texting or ringing me. The work has already started."
