Self-confessed Liverpool fan Scott Dann will be lining up against the Reds on Saturday in what promises to be an emotional night at Anfield.

The Crystal Palace defender will be key in preventing Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard marking his final appearance in front of the Kop on a winning note.

Despite the significance of the occasion, the Liverpool-born Dann is in no doubt that business comes first for himself and the Eagles.

And more so then ever on the back of their worst run of the season – four straight Premier League defeats.

“We’ll be going there to make sure we put in a good performance to get the points,” said the 28-year-old.

“We need to try to make sure that we go into the off-season on a high and try and pick up some points in our next two games.

Crystal Palace midfielder talks fine margins against Manchester United

“We’re on the back of four defeats, but we’ve played well in the plast two against two top teams [Chelsea and Manchester United] and we’ll go to Anfield wanting to make sure we get a good result -whatever team the manager picks we’ll be ready.”

Despite the intense focus on securing maximum points for his employers, Dann acknowledges that it will be a day to remember for him personally, whatever the result, as Gerrard nears the end of a Liverpool career that has spanned 16 years and more than 700 appearances.

“It’s always a good atmosphere at Anfield,” said Dann, who was born in Kirkdale in the north of the city.

“I think it will be a little bit more special for them - I am sure they will be up for it and I am sure they will want to put on a good performance for him in his last home game.

“He’s been the best, if not one of the best, in the Premier League. He’s been at Liverpool for the whole of his career and been a tremendous player, and [on Saturday] it will be a nice send off for him.

“It will be a privilege to be on the pitch against Steven and it will be something to remember.

“It will be a great day to be involved in - being local I know the impact and inspiration he has made to the people of Liverpool.”

Dann himself was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, under Kenny Dalglish, in June 2011 when he was at Birmingham City.

However, despite having a lot of family and friends in the city and being a fan himself, the big Palace defender was quick to play down any possibility he would be looking for personal mementos.

“I am not a big one to swap shirts,” he said.

“I have had some ticket requests, but I have the same people come and watch me every week. I will just make sure I look after them, but they’ll definitely be in the Palace end.

“Whichever team I play for they’re always behind me and it will be no different on Saturday.”
