Bradley Skeete took just 114 seconds to announce his return to the ring and claim the vacant WBO European welterweight title.

The Tooting man beat Anzor Gamgebeli in the opening round of Saturday’s bout, putting the Georgian on the canvas twice before the referee stepped in.

Skeete, 27, admitted his opponent was punching light, but was delighted to erase the memory of his British & Commonwealth title defeat to Frankie Gavin in November.

The former Earlsfield ABC man said: “It was great to get back to winning ways. That’s what it was all about, getting the belt and cracking on.

“I could have taken the easy route since the Gavin loss but I jumped back into title level, which my promoter Frank Warren delivered.

“I’ve got this title so I’m going to move on now and go on to bigger and better things.”

He added: “No disrespect to him [Gamgebeli]. He wasn’t really a welterweight as he came in really light, he wasn’t the best of opponents, but at the end of the day a win is a win.

“Regardless of who it was I would have been that same spiteful self. I have been working hard in the gym so whoever was in there I would have got the job done.”

And after winning the WBO European crown at the O2, Skeete will now officially get a top 15 spot in the WBO rankings, which puts him in good stead to challenge for a full version of the world title.
