Director of rugby Steve Hill is confident his Richmond squad’s strength in depth can cope with a spate injuries.

Four players were forced off during Saturday’s 24-22 win over Loughborough Students – secured by the boot of full back Rob Kirby whose late conversion of a Tom Shaw try proved decisive.

Hooker Jason Phipps hobbled off with a knee injury after only 10 seconds and has been ruled out of action for a month, while scrum half Callum Grant rolled an ankle misses tomorrow’s trip to Old Albanians.

Centre Matt Keville (rib) and winger Will Browne (ankle) will are due fitness tests before the weekend.

Richmond are fifth in the National Division One table and Hill expects his team to at least maintain that position over the coming weeks.

“We showed tremendous resilience to come back and win this game after having been behind with only a few minutes to go,” he said.

“The belief within this squad is very high and our strength and conditioning work means we are confident in the closing stages of games.

“We are in a better position than we were this time last year in terms of injuries.

“They will test the depth in our squad, but I am confident we can continue produce positive performances.”
