Richard Brady says it was just a case of time when Leatherhead’s luck turned and someone paid the price, and that someone was Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Tuesday night’s 5-1 Ryman Premier win at the Beveree was the Tanners first three points in eight attempts, a run that has seen the Fetcham Grove side drop out the play-offs to mid-table.

However, Brady admitted he ran the risk of being boring by claiming his side had not had the rub of the green in all but one of those games.

“We have played really well and created lots of chances, but it’s been strange that we’ve not been getting the results we deserve,” he said.

“The defeat at home to Billericay was the only game where we did not turn up, but Tonbridge had two shots on goal and won 2-1, against Enfield we hit the bar and post and the FA Cup defeat to Faversham was a real smash and grab.

“As a manager it can be quite boring to say we’ve not had the luck, but sometimes football goes like that.

Goal number four: Stacy Long, out of shot, beats the Hampton keeper on a night when the Tanners' luck finally turned

“I won’t have a go at my players if I can see they are putting the effort in, and I can see that in every game.”

Kiernan Hughes-Mason, Paul Semakula, Vasieleious Karagiannis, Stacy Long and Carl Rook got the goals that humbled Hampton, although Brady had his concerns when Hughes-Mason’s opener was cancelled out by Charlie Moone.

He said: “There are people in the league who are surprised we won 5-1, but we were not surprised.

“When the luck deserts you, you know there will be a time when it comes back and someone is going to get a beating.

Decisive second: Paul Semakula's first goal of the season restored Leatherhead's lead at the Beveree

“In truth, we could have had three or four more, and the only time we looked vulnerable was after they equalised and we thought ‘Here we go again’.”

Brady added: “But we’re not getting carried away with the result, we told the players straight after the match that we need to concentrate on Witham at home this weekend.”

Richard Avery is Brady’s only fitness concern ahead of Witham Town’s on Saturday, although the midfielder, who has been out for three weeks with a foot injury, could be available.
