Teddington chairman Gareth Cross is hoping a new clubhouse can help the club cash in when the rugby World Cup arrives in Twickenham next term.

The Bushy Park outfit will be joined by Harlequins stars Marland Yarde and Tom Williams as they officially open their £650,000 new home tomorrow on the opening day of the new London Division Three South West season.

Teddington and Teddington Town Cricket Club received a £176,000 from the RFU, a £60,000 grant from Sport England and £5,000 from Richmond Council’s Civic Pride scheme for the project, with the rest being raised by their members.

The rugby club, founded in 1972, now has 2,000 members, while Teddington Town runs three senior teams with an additional 150 junior members.

And Cross hopes the new base and the World Cup can attract a few more to sport in the borough.

“We now have some of the best facilities in the Teddington area for local people to use and enjoy during the week and at the weekend,” he said.

“The 2015 Rugby World Cup will hopefully inspire a new wave of people of all ages to become involved in rugby and our club will be even better equipped to welcome new members.”

Teddington, who won 24-12 at Kingston in a pre-=season friendly on Saturday, were relegated from London Division Two South West last term after an impressive rise through the lower leagues – not to mention back-to-back RFU Senior and Junior Vase triumphs at Twickenham.

They host Old Tiffinians tomorrow on the opening day of the London Division Three South West campaign.

* Teddington host a ladies and girls open day on Sunday, which kicks off at 9am with a free fitness session with One Element and features free face painting and a demonstration game from St Mary’s University.
