Hercules Wimbledon youngsters dominated the sprints at the South of England U15/U17 Championships at Crystal Palace on Saturday, with brothers Rechmial and Chad Miller and Jaleel Roper all taking gold medals.

Rechmial took the U17 men's 100m title in 11.04 seconds racing into a stiff 1.9 metres per second wind.

Chad took the U15 100m title in a personal best of 11.28secs to improve on his previous best of 11.28secs set at Lee Valley in July.

Chad, who is just 14, has shown a massive improvement on his best of 12.6secs before the start of this season.

Eleven-year-old Roper made it a hat-trick of sprinting titles for Hercules Wimbledon as he took the U13 boys' 100m title in 12.71secs, adding them to the two silver medals he won at the Surrey Championships in May.

The three titles was just reward for the hours of training the youngsters put in with coach Paul Miller, himself a former Surrey senior men's 100m champion.

Elsewhere, Hercules' senior men's team ended their league season with a win when they won the Rosenheim League final at Tooting Bec, holding off strong challenges from south London rivals Kingston & Polytechnic Harriers and Belgrave.

It was their first victory in the event since 2004 and it was perhaps apt that Hercules Wimbledon should win as 2004 marks 50 years since the trophy was first contested in 1964.

It proved a hard-earned win for Hercules Wimbledon and, after leading early on in the eight-sided contest, the team clinched victory with impressive performances in the final two track events, the 3,000m and 4x200m relay to snatch victory.

Hercules Wimbledon provided only two winners with Fred Slemeck taking the 1,500m and Nnamdi Odum the triple jump.

Alex Robinson was second in the 3,000m and Hamed Agboke, Esmond Ferns and David Harris third in the 400 and 800m and 110m hurdles, respectively.

Antonio Douglas had a busy evening - he was third equal in the high jump and fifth in the 100 and 200m.

Hercules Wimbledon managed to secure victory despite the absence of the club's top sprinters.

Rosenheim League final result: 1 Hercules Wimbledon 71.5; 2 Kingston & Polytechnic 68.5; 3 Belgrave 62; 4 Herne Hill 60; 5 Serpentine 54; 6 Epsom & Ewell 39; 7 Walton 15; 8 St Mary's Richmond 14.

Hercules Wimbledon's track and field training sessions take place at Wimbledon Park athletics stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Further details from coaching coordinator Maurice Sharp on 020 8337 8707.
