IRISH international Gary Doherty has committed to Wanderers for at least one more season after signing a new one-year contract.

Defender Doherty, who has 34 caps for Republic of Ireland, initially arrived at Adams Park on-loan from Charlton Athletic in 2012.

The 34-year-old penned a permanent two-year deal that summer and has played 60 times for the Chairboys in total, scoring four times.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “Everyone knows what Doc is about and he brings so much to the club, not just on the pitch but his character and his experience in the dressing room.

“He hit a really good run of form before his injury and we missed him after that. He has got plenty more to offer so I’m really pleased he’s agreed to stay because he’s an important player for us.”

Doherty’s season was cut short this year after he suffered a broken arm and a dislocated elbow in February.
