Kingstonian skipper Sam Page ended his goal drought on Saturday, but revealed he is more interested in cleansheets as the race to the Ryman Premier League play-offs enters the home straight.

The former Sutton United centre back headed his first goal of the season as boss Alan Dowson’s men thrashed  relegated Cray Wanderers 4-0 on Saturday – a win that featured a brace for Andre McCollin and one for Charlie Knight.

Ks fired blanks against 10-man Leiston on Tuesday night as they stretched their unbeaten run to nine league matches to move up to fourth in the table before Thursday’s fixtures.

“I usually get seven or eight goals a season, but I haven’t been as good in the opposition’s box this year,” he said.

“You need a bit of luck and it was a relief to score to be honest.

“Cleansheets mean more to me. We’ve kept something like 18 or 19 this season and if we can get to 20 or 21 then it has been a good year.

He added: “We are unbeaten in nine league games now and if we get to the play-offs, I don’t think anyone would fancy playing us because we are so hard to beat.

“Winning the play-offs would make a good season a fantastic one.”

Kingstonian, who have slashed ticket prices for the weekend, host seventh placed Lowestoft Town in a play-off race six pointer at Kingsmeadow on Saturday.

And Page warned fans they should not read too much into the mid-week result.

“Getting a point away at Leiston – who are in good form – is not the worst result in the world,” he added.

“It’s always difficult to beat 10-men because they work harder and still have two banks of four to defend with.

“The whole squad is working so hard to get to the play-offs. I think you can see that in every game we are playing.

“If we don’t get there it will certainly not be for the want of trying.

“People have seen what we can do in the big games, like against Dulwich Hamlet, and if we can get a big crowd in, it will feel like a proper game.”
