Esher racer Ollie Millroy has not turned his back on European racing, but is out to deliver on his Eastern promise.

The 23-year-old has agreed a deal to drive a 2014-spec BMW Z4 GT3 for AAI Motorsport in the Asian Le Mans Series’ GTC class, which kicks-off in South Korea on July 20.

And Millroy is out to spearhead AAI’s bid to improve on their third place finish in last year’s GTC standings, as the Taiwanese outfit eyes a future graduation on to the international stage.

“The deal came about quite quickly to be honest,” said Millroy ahead of a two-day test at the Sepang International Circuit on April 14.

“Returning to race in Asia is something I’ve been keen to do for a while, and this is just the sort of challenge that appealed to me.

“I’m sure I can play a major role in helping to develop AAI Motorsport’s Asian Le Mans Series programme this year.

“The idea is to grow with them and move forward together, especially as they have ambitions to race on an international level.”

He added: “At the moment, our plan is to contest the full Asian Le Mans Series, but we could add a couple of other events to the programme, including the GT race at Macau.

“I’m still looking at a few possibilities in Europe like the 24 Hours of Spa.”

l Worcester Park racing driver Howard Fuller and New Malden’s Tom Onslow-Cole may not be involved in the British Touring Car Championship this summer, but they will still share racedays.

Fuller, 21, will drive a Team Hard Volkswagen Golf for a season in the VW Cup – a support series to the British GT Championships, in which Onslow-Cole competes.

Both series kick off at Oulton Park on April 20.
