THE yellow carpet replaced a red one at last night's The Simpsons Movie star-studded premiere, held at The O2.

Richard and Judy, Jimmy Carr, Lady Isabella Hervey, members of McFly and Joshua Jackson were all among the first to see the first big-screen outing of America's most dysfunctional family.

Those lucky enough to secure a ticket - which included residents from Springfield in Essex - entered the venue, which had been transformed into a mini Springfield, via a giant Homer mouth.

Hundreds of screaming fans lined the yellow carpet, where saxophonists serenaded guests with The Simpsons signature tune, to get a glimpse of celebrities including Vic Reeves and Steven Gateley (who News Shopper spotted almost choking on his popcorn, even before he'd reached his seat).

In true Simpsons style, it didn't all go without a hitch and many of The O2's cinema screens became too full to seat even the most famous of guests. News Shopper saw Jo Whiley and Richard and Judy heading back down an escalator to be slotted in elsewhere.

Some members of the public were kept more than 20 minutes waiting to see the film.

The Simpsons Movie is in cinemas now.
