Olympian appears at fun run

FORMER Olympic gold winner Linford Christie handed out prizes to schoolchildren at a charity fun run this weekend.

The ex-sprinter also signed programmes and encouraged youngsters to continue their athletics training at the fun run in Chalfont St Peter.

Children from five schools took part in the run, which was in aid of Sport Relief.

The 1.5 kilometre races for eight and nine-year-olds were won by Jordan Lowe of Davenies School and Holly Daniels from St Joseph's.

Ten and eleven-year-olds ran two kilometres, with Joseph Cochrane of St Joseph's School and Lucia Finan from Robertswood taking first place.

The fun run, which was held at Thorpe House Sports Field, was organised by the Misbourne Matins Rotary Club.

Organiser and Rotary Club member Carin Eilerts de Haan said: "We had a fantastic response from the schools, and the children ran really well.

"It is great that kids are so keen to improve their health and fitness through exercise - and we were obviously absolutely thrilled that Linford Christie took the time to join us and present the prizes."
