Enfield Council's environment chief is calling on Network Rail to review its policy on pedestrian foot crossings following the death of the two teenagers hit by a train on Friday.
Voker Hasa and Jamie Yuksel, died on the Pegamoid foot crossing in Edmonton, when they were struck by a Stanstead Express train.
Investigations are being led by British Transport Police (BTP) and the Health and Safety Executive.
Cllr Terry Neville, cabinet member for environment, said: "I call on Network Rail to review their policy regarding pedestrian crossings. For a start, is there a need for this style of crossing, and if so, should there be clearer signage and prominent warning signals?"
A spokeswoman for Network Rail said: "We will do what we can to assist the BTP with their investigation.
"There is no suggestion at this stage the location or design of the footpath is to blame.
"Railway crossings are safe if used correctly."
