A COUPLE fed-up with flytipped rubbish being dumped in their street are trying to sell the junk on eBay.

Laurence Collyer and Laura Babb say they are sick of piles of clothes, rubble and traffic cones being left at the end of Abery Street, Plumstead.

Now the pair have found a different way to vent their anger by putting the rubbish up for sale on the popular internet auction site.

They hope their unusual ploy will force Greenwich Council to take harsher action against those responsible for dumping the junk.

The couple posted the items on eBay last week, with a starting price of £1.

Underneath a picture of the rubble, the item description promises the buyer a "genuine lucky dip of fly-tipped items".

The description also tries to woo potential buyers by listing items which have been dumped in the street, including a used toilet, an old fridge and a scabby mattress.

Ms Babb, 25, said: "We are fed up of having this on our doorstep and thought this would be a novel way of bringing it to people's attention.

"I'm a bit of an eBay addict but I have never sold anything like this on there before."

The housing manager added: "Someone might be crazy enough to buy this old rubbish.

"If someone can sell their virginity on eBay, why not this?"

Mr Collyer, 25, says the rubbish has been a near-permanent fixture in the street since they moved in last April.

The accountant says council officers have cleared the rubbish before but he wants a more permanent solution to the problem.

A Greenwich Council spokesman said: "If any rubbish has been overlooked on this occasion we can only apologise.

"We will pay particular attention to Plumstead in the next few weeks."

Since eBay was launched in 1995, everything from a box of air to a bra belonging to Britney Spears has been sold on the site.

In 2004, student Rosie Reid attempted to sell her virginity on eBay, though the posting was later removed by website bosses.
