Pink handbag ready for lift off

A brigade of barmy blondes attempting to soar into the sky in a giant pink handbag is just one of the many daredevil teams that will be nose diving into The Serpentine lake in London's Hyde Park next month.

Rebecca Partridge of Kitchener Close, St Albans and her crew, dubbed The Blonde Bimbos, is one of 40 teams who have to design, build and ultimately launch a manpowered flying machine off a six metre platform in the Redbull Flugtag challenge on Saturday, June 7.

A buzzing crowd will watch in anticipation as the all-girl crew, donning killer heels, bright lipstick and platinum bouffants, perform a rendition of Dolly Parton's hit nine to five before tossing their elaborately decorated handbag over the edge.

The craft will soar into the wild blue yonder for a few glorious moments before plummeting into the 28-acre lake below.

Thirty-two-year-old Rebecca aka Flight Lieutenant Silky Pitt, said: "We are confident that not only will our handbag fly further than any other craft, our dance routine and Dolly Parton style boobs should get us some bonus points for all the fun we will be bringing to Hyde Park."

As the only all-female team to enter in this year's competition they are hotly tipped favourites to win.

The ladies soared to the top of an online chart where users vote for their favourites.
