A Stormtrooper helmet

A Twickenham studio has been embroiled in a legal battle with Star Wars creator George Lucas over replica Stormtrooper suits.

Mr Lucas is suing prop designer Andrew Ainsworth who has been selling replicas of the suits from Shepperton Design Studios.

Lucasfilm argues that selling the costumes is an infringement of their copyright.

Mr Ainsworth first made the Stormtrooper suits and helmets for the original 1977 movie.

Star Wars fans can pay up to £1,800 for a suit and helmet, which Mr Ainsworth's websites states are made from the original movie moulds.

Fans can also purchase helmets worn by other characters in the film including headgear belonging to Imperial Gunners and members of the Rebel Fleet.

Lucasfilm have already won £10million after successfully suing Mr Ainsworth for copyright infringement in California.

And as the legal battle began at London's High Court today among those watching proceedings was a person dressed in as a Stormtrooper.

Mr Ainsworth maintains he owns the rights to the manufacture replica costumes.

The case continues.
