Brother blamed twin for smoking crack on Sutton bus

Twin Ben Quilter blamed his brother for crimes Twin Ben Quilter blamed his brother for crimes

A man has admitted to blaming his identical twin brother for crimes when questioned by the police, a court was told.

Ben Quilter, 33, of Pine Walk, Banstead, was found not guilty at Croydon Crown Court last week of exposing himself to a young girl on a Sutton bus in June 2011.

He was accused of showing his genitals to the schoolgirl but Mr Quilter said he was only smoking his crack-pipe and hiding the drugs in his trousers.

CCTV footage showed Mr Quilter on the bus smoking drugs.

When he was initially arrested, Mr Quilter told police it was not him on the bus but his identical twin brother, Sam Quilter, the court was told.

His brother told the police he was at his partner’s house at the time of the alleged incident.

Mr Quilter then admitted he was on the bus but denied exposing himself.

He said: “I have got a twin brother who is always getting nicked. He always blames it on me and vice versa.

“Without thinking, I said it was my twin on the bus. Once I got into it though I said it was me on the bus.”
