A pensioner decided to take matters into her own hands and give Cheam an Olympic makeover.
Doreen Gibbs, 73, from Cheam, began making decorations for the Jubilee then decided to direct her efforts towards brightening up the village ahead of the games this summer.
She visited over 30 charity shops to buy the correct material and to make sure they were the Olympic colours.
Mrs Gibbs, said: “I got people walking by to help put them up.
“I’ve been doing it for about three weeks.
“They had hardly put anything out – it looked really miserable.
“I thought what else could I do for the games?”
She has asked people inspired by her decorations to send donations to the Salvation Army at 101, Newington Causeway, London, SE1 6BN, or call 0207 367 4800.
Mrs Gibbs is willing to make more flags for the Olympic torch route, but has run out of material.
If anyone has any spare red, black, blue, green or yellow material email maryburstow@BTinternet.com. Any unused material will be given to charity.
