A wide-awake shopper has snubbed a costly special offer on coffee that would have given less than meets the eye.

George Prawn chose not to take Sainsbury’s up on the offer of two packs of Taylors expresso coffee beans for £6 – a full 2p more expensive than buying them separately for £2.99 each.

The budget conscious consumer spotted the deal at the Richmond Road store on Saturday, January 7.

He said: “With deals like this I think I’ll bogof.”

A spokesman said: “The offer should have referred to the ground coffee beans which were £3.29 each, which would have represented a potential saving to the customer of nearly 10 per cent.

“The ‘Two for £6’ sticker was put on this item in error and the store has since removed it.”

How on earth is this news? People wonder why local press is on the slide and then you find journalists wasting their time with this nonsense. I feel sorry for Sainsbury's that they even felt the need to comment on it. A simple mistake. I look forward to seeing stories about people leaving the top off the milk and finding no their candle unlit at the restaurant table too.

The mystery is why is Dan Falchikov now calling himself George Prawn.

Is he embarrassed to use his own name?
In 2010, he was caught trying to infiltrate the Conservative election campaign.
