A primary school teacher from Tooting has made the final of the Kukri Adventure Scholarship for the chance to win £20,000.

Will Hodson, 35, aims to continue a cycling adventure which began in 2011, when he cycled 4,000km from his home in Tooting to Turkey, raising over £5,000 for charity under the moniker Super Cycling Man.

Under his alias, Mr Hodson hopes to spend every summer holiday from 2013 to 2018, cycling to a different country, with the eventual aim of cycling around the world. If he were to win the Kukri Adventure Scholarship, Mr Hodson would win £20,000 to put towards his goal.

He aims to raise £100,000 towards the World Cancer Research Fund and Parkinson’s UK.

Mr Hodson, who teaches year one children at Brandlehow Primary School in Putney, is also the Healthy Schools Coordinator for his school. He said: “I’ve got my own super cycling club that I run after school.

“It’s great to see the kids get excited about cycling; one girl said that she wants to cycle to Egypt when she’s older so I’m hoping to inspire them to go on their own adventure.”

The Scholarship has been organised by a number of big names in adventure sport, including world record breaking adventurer Mark Beaumont and Television Presenter Ben Shepherd.

Mr Hodson submitted a video entry explaining the adventure he will go on if he were to win the scholarship.

The winner of the scholarship will be announced this Friday February 8 at 6pm after the seven finalists present their plan to a panel of judges.
