A bespoke joiner is turning heads with a giant bubble fence he built outside his home.

The free-standing, glow-in-the-dark fence on London Road, North Cheam, shows off the handiwork of the 47-year-old dad Calvin Stroud.

Completed during the week before Christmas the fence, made of timber, has now become a permanent feature of the road.

He said: "It’s a bit like Marmite. Some people are going ‘It’s fantastic’ some people are going ‘I’m not quite getting it’.

"People have stopped to look at it since the day we put it up. When the lights go on every single person walking, driving or on the bus is looking at it.

"The idea was to do something unusual – to do a fence based on bubbles. I love doing all sorts of different things.

"It’s made pretty simply but other joiners who have seen it couldn’t work out how I did it.

"It’s got small grooves where a small LED strip light up each one and it comes on at night. When the sun goes down the lights come on."

The fence has an estimated cost of around £6,000 and took two men from Mr Stroud’s company, Calvin’s Mill, a week to complete. For more information visit www.calvinsmill.co.uk
