'Experience in giraffe handling' is not a pre-requisite in many jobs, but this is not just any job.

Sutton United are looking for a new Community Officer to build on the club's United with the Community initiative, the role will also mean becoming a handler for the club's mascot Jenny the Giraffe.

As the job specification states: "The principle aim of this position is to establish Sutton United FC as the foremost Community Club in non-league football and to establish permanent and sustainable links with all members of the local community.

Must be able to work with female giraffes and manage her busy diary/schedule. We'll even throw in a special cap for the successful candidate to wear."

The successful candidate will be given the chance to work with young people and create a new disabled football team as well as working closely with the woman's adult team.

John James, the club's local authority liason officer, said the new recruit will have a social responsibility in encouraging young girls to carry on playing football after their teens, and nurture youngsters in coaching and refereeing skills.

Ideally, applicants will have also have long arms to feed Jenny and an authoritative tone to keep her from wandering off.

He said: "I will still be responsible for ordering her acacia leaves and washing her kit, its just that we need a paid Community Officer who, among other things, will deal with her busy schedule.

On a serious note, the appointment of a Community Officer for Sutton Utd will make a massive impact on the effectiveness of our community programme and hopefully will make SUFC one of the foremost non-league Community Clubs."
